Q1. Are we the cheapest company around?
No. Included in our quotes are maximum benefits to our customers - new cars (latest models), a low excess and no nasty surprises such as tourism levies or additional mileage charges. We focus on "optimized" car rental, not cheap car rental.
Q2. Then, are you the most expensive?
No. Due to the amount of vehicles that are rented from this site, we get discounted rates that we "pool" for our clients, and on top of that we get additional benefits such as unlimited mileage. SouthAfrica-CarRental.com is the best value car rental site.
Q3. What are the minimum requirements to hire a vehicle from South Africa Car Hire?
A3. To hire a car from our suppliers, you require a valid driver’s license that is in English, a credit card for authorization and payment, and you must be at least 23 years old.
The driver must be the credit card holder. You are welcome to add additional drivers - this may have a slight cost involved.
Q4. Can I hire a car for cash?
A4. No. All our suppliers require a credit card for the rental. Both authorization at the beginning and payment at the end will be taken from the credit card.
Q5. What does the term excess / deductible mean?
A5. The amount the hirer is liable for in the event of an accident / theft before the insurance company will cover the remaining costs.
Q6. What insurance should I take?
A6. The amount of insurance that you take depends on the risk that you are willing to take in the event of an accident or theft. We have super cover and total cover options. All people that hire may choose the super cover option. With an international license, on total cover you will have a nil excess. Without the international passport, there may be a minimum excess (this will be less than the super cover option).
Q7. What is an accident administration fee for?
A7. This covers any administration costs our suppliers incur in the event of an accident. A R470 administration fee is charged in addition to the excess.
Q8. What factors would constitute being in violation of the terms and conditions of the insurance?
A8.
1. Gross or Criminal negligence: eg: Drunk driving
2. Unauthorised drivers – i.e. names of additional drivers not listed on the
rental agreement
3. Not reporting damage to the rental company immediately
4. Disobeying traffic, road and driving rules and regulations
5. Driving under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substances
6. Unsuitable driving or road conditions
7. Unauthorised cross border rentals
Q9. What should I do in the event of an accident?
A9. Contact the number you were given by the branch to inform them about the accident. Obtain as much detail as you can from the other driver, and also contact the local police department so that you can obtain a case number.
Q10. What to do in the event of a break-down:
A10. Our cars are kept in the best condition possible, but in the unlikely event of a break-down, contact the branch at the phone number provided - they will assess the quickest way to help you.
Q11. Should the tank be returned full?
A11. The vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel (unless delivered to you, in which case it will be slightly down). On completion of the rental, you can fill the tank yourself, or the branch will do that for you. If they do this, there will be a small levy fee of R20.00. Please be aware that most petrol stations in South Africa still do not accept credit cards.
Q12. What fuel must be used in the car?
A12. Unless otherwise stated, all our vehicles take unleaded fuel.
Q13. What is a "car rental day"?
A13. Rentals are charged in 24 hour periods, return of the vehicle later than the time on the booking will result in an extra day being charged. A grace period of 59 minutes is allowed for late returns.
